PETROLEUM PRICING

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, May 1, 2015 The Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission approved the following petroleum pricing decisions, effective 12:01 a.m., Friday, May 1, 2015:

  • Gasoline prices will increase by 1.5 cents per litre (cpl);
  • There will be no change in furnace and stove oil prices;
  • Diesel prices will increase by 1.7 cpl; and
  • Propane prices will decrease by 4.5 cpl for Superior Propane, by 4.4 cpl for Irving Energy Distribution and Marketing and by 5.0 cpl for Kenmac Energy Inc.

Including adjustments for taxes, pump prices for regular unleaded gasoline at self-serve outlets will now range from 111.4 cpl to 112.5 cpl. Maximum before tax propane prices will now range from 66.2 cpl to 68.7 cpl.

The maximum price for furnace oil will continue at 83.7 cpl plus tax.

Recent escalation in the wholesale price of both gasoline and diesel have necessitated the pricing adjustments announced today. Seasonally related supply and demand issues typically impact motor fuel pricing at this time of year.

Prince Edward Island is not alone in facing rising prices. The regulated price of gasoline in all four Atlantic Canadian provinces and, indeed, across the country has risen substantially over the past few weeks. For comparative purposes, regular self-serve gasoline in Halifax, NS, is currently 112.0 cpl; in Moncton, NB, 113.2 cpl; in New Glasgow, NS, 113.2 cpl; and in Corner Brook, NL, 120.7 cpl; vs Charlottetown at 111.4 cpl.

The Commission's next scheduled price adjustment will be on May 15, 2015.
