THE MACMILLAN POINT Water Utility (the Utility) has applied to the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission (the Commission) for approval to increase water rates, effective January 1, 2017.

FLAT RATE - The Utility is proposing to increase annual water service rates from $250.00 per unit to $350.00.

FRONTAGE RATE - Rates are proposed to increase from $1.25 to $1.75 per foot. Currently there is a maximum frontage charge based on 300 feet and the Utility is proposing a minimum footage charge based on 100 feet.

The minimum charge under the new rate structure would be $175 per year; the maximum frontage would increase from $375 (@1.25 per foot) to $525 (@ $1.75 per foot).

Frontage charges apply to all undeveloped lots and to some developed properties depending on the lot size.

The Commission's rate review process involves:

  • the Utility filing a rate application;

  • public notification of the proposed rate changes;

  • the Commission's review of the application through a paper review process or a public hearing; and

  • the issuance of an Order outlining the Commission's decision on the rates to be charged, which will be posted on the Commission's website at www.irac.pe.ca.
