UE20715
IN THE MATTER
of an
application by Maritime Electric Company, Limited for approval of an
amendment to the Company's 2008
Capital Budget.
Notice of Application
TAKE NOTICE
that Maritime
Electric Company, Limited (“Maritime Electric” or the “Company”) has
filed for the approval of the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission
(the “Commission”) an amendment to the 2008 capital budget.
BACKGROUND
Maritime
Electric is required, under Section 17 (1) of the Electric Power
Act, to submit to the Commission for its approval an annual
capital budget of proposed improvements or additions to the property of
the public utility. The 2008 capital budget was approved by Commission
Order UE07-07 dated October 11, 2007. Since the approval of the original
capital budget, Maritime Electric received a request for an expansion of
transmission service capacity associated with the West Cape Wind Farm.
In addition, the Government of Prince Edward Island has requested the
development of a power corridor between Sherbrooke and O’Leary to
facilitate its five year economic strategy in this area.
DETAILS
The Company is seeking approval for an amendment
to the 2008 capital budget requesting an increase in capital expenditures of
$13,900,000 related to the proposed transmission line and power corridor
between Sherbrooke and O’Leary substations.
The planned capital expenditures do not have any impact on rates as the cost
of the transmission line and power corridor will be fully offset from
contributions received for the Government of Prince Edward Island and West
Cape Wind Energy Inc.
