Notice of Application
TAKE NOTICE that Maritime Electric Company, Limited ("Maritime Electric" or the "Company") has applied to the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission (the "Commissioner") for approval of proposed amendments to its rates, tolls and charges.
In summary, the Company seeks Commission approval of the following:
an increase in Basic Rates to rebase the energy cost adjustment mechanism ("ECAM");
continuation of the currently authorized energy cost adjustment (ECAM) with the rebased rates and reinstatement of a 12 month amortization to reflect changing energy input costs of the Company;
removal of the Point Lepreau replacement energy costs from the ECAM calculation beginning January 1, 2009 to September 30, 2009, and recovery of these costs in the ECAM calculations over a period of 10 years beginning October 1, 2009; and
the maximum allowed return on average common equity be set at 9.75% for 2009.
The application states that, with the ongoing operation of the ECAM, the total increase in 2009 customer electricity costs based on the current energy supply forecast will be:
7.46% - Residential customer using 650 kWh/month
7.47% - Commercial customer
8.25% - Large Industrial customer

Persons wishing to pose questions to Maritime Electric on the application may do so by filing their questions, in writing, with the Company on or before Friday, November 14, 2008. Questions posed to Maritime Electric must be answered by the Company, in writing, on or before Friday, November 21, 2008.
