IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE CANADA POST STRIKE: Canada Post workers are on strike, beginning at 12:01 AM on Friday, November 15, 2024. Please be mindful of service interruptions when filing applications and documents with the Commission during this time and consider alternative methods of delivery (email, dropping applications off in-person, commercial courier) to ensure that your application is not impacted by postal delays.
Notice to Applicants:
Effective January 1, 2023, in an effort to make housing more affordable for Canadians, the Government of Canada enacted a prohibition on non-Canadians from purchasing residential property in Canada. This legislation affects certain properties in Prince Edward Island, which may impact applications under the Lands Protection Act filed by non-Canadians.
When filing a non-resident application under Section 4 of the Lands Protection Act, non-Canadian applicants will need to provide the Commission with a submission detailing how the Prohibition on the Purchase of Residential Property by Non-Canadians Act applies to the proposed transaction. This submission must be received prior to the application being processed.
